First Aid Level 2 -US 120496: Provide risk-based primary emergency care/first aid in the workplace

This Unit Standard will be useful for learners to enable them to provide primary emergency care (first aid) in response to an occupational risk induced or any health emergency in their specific workplaces. (Old Level 2)

The US 120496: Provide risk-based primary emergency care/first aid in the workplace course is designed to provide the participant who has no medical training but wishes to enable him/ her to provide primary emergency care (first aid) in response to an occupational risk induced or any health emergency in their specific workplaces.

The course will allow the participant to have a basic understanding of and how to handle a wide range of Trauma and Medical Emergencies.

Target Audience

This course is ideal for first aiders that wish to have greater confidence when treating patients. This course has also now also become the required minimum standard in many industries for individuals working as team leaders or supervisors.

Specific Outcomes

Qualifying learners are able to:

  • Demonstrate the principles of primary emergency care.
  • Assess and control a single injury emergency scene in the workplace.
  • Demonstrate primary emergency life support for adults, children and infants.
  • Explain and manage shock.
  • Carry out secondary assessment of the sick or injured person and provide appropriate primary emergency care at the scene.
  • Keep records of the incident/accident.

Learning Assumed to Be in Place and Recognition of Prior Learning

  • Communication at NQF Level 1 or ABET Level 4.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 1.

Classroom/ Contact Training

• Phase 1: Contact Classroom – 3 days.
• Phase 2: Own Pace, On-the-job learning, Self-directed learning, Coaching, and Other training.
• Phase 3: Submission and evaluation of Portfolio of Evidence and resubmission, if required.
• Phase 4: Summative Assessment and Final Practical Evaluation – 1 day.

Certification

Subject to final internal moderation, all successful learners will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance and once the verification and endorsement have been completed by a SAQA approved Quality Assurance Partner (QAP), a Statement of Results (SOR) and Competency Certificate (CC) will be issued by them and distributed through MSL Medical.

Please note: The time frame for issuing for the SOR and CC is reliant on the QAPs verification and endorsement of the training conducted. There may be a delay despite MSL Medical requesting that this to be done as soon as the final internal moderation has been completed.

This certificate is valid for 3 years.
