First Aid Level 1 – US 119567 – Perform Basic Life Support and First Aid Procedures
The US 119567 – Perform Basic Life Support and First Aid Procedures course is for persons required to assess the emergency and providing Basic Life Support and Basic First Aid to stabilize patients before arrival and transfer to the arrival of advanced medical personnel. (Old Level 1)
Specific Outcomes
People credited with this unit standard are able to:
● Demonstrate an understanding of emergency scene management
● Demonstrate an understanding of elementary anatomy and physiology
● Assess an emergency situation
● Apply First Aid procedures to the life-threatening situation
● Treat common injuries.
Learning Assumed to Be in Place and Recognition of Prior Learning
● Communication at ABET level 3
● Mathematical Literacy at ABET level 3
Duration
• Phase 1: Contact Classroom – 2 days.
• Phase 2: Own Pace, On-the-job learning, Self-directed learning, Coaching, and Other training.
• Phase 3: Submission and evaluation of Portfolio of Evidence and resubmission, if required.
• Phase 4: Summative Assessment and Final Practical Evaluation – 1 day.
Assessments
Learners will be required to submit a Portfolio of Evidence and both Formative and Summative Assessments will be conducted in the form of:
● Theory questions
● Practical skills tasks
● Workplace Assignments
● Desk re-assessments
Certification
Subject to final internal moderation, all successful learners will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance and once the verification and endorsement have been completed by a SAQA approved Quality Assurance Partner (QAP), a Statement of Results (SOR) and Competency Certificate (CC) will be issued by them and distributed through BLS Medical.
Please note: The time frame for issuing for the SOR and CC is reliant on the QAPs verification and endorsement of the training conducted. There may be a delay despite MSL Medical requesting that this to be done as soon as the final internal moderation has been completed.
This certificate is valid for 3 years.
